  BE HONEST

TEXT: Matthew 23:24:27

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 8:21 “Providing for honest things; not only in the sight of the
Lord, but also in the sight of men.”

TEACHER’S OBJECTIVE
That each child school be able to:-
• Define the term honesty
• Explain Jesus attitude towards honesty.
• Demonstrate honesty as a Christian virtue in his/her interaction with others.

INTRODUCTION
Children what does it mean to be honest? (Allow the children to respond). To be honest. Means to tell the truth, not lying, cheating or stealing. It also means to be sincere. Can you remember our last lesson? Be sincere. Ask the children questions on that Lesson.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
1. The lesson started with Jesus rebuking the dishonest attitudes of the Scribes and
the Pharisees by calling them blind guides Matthew 23:24.
2. Jesus further rebuked the Pharisees and the Scribes for only taking their time to
take care of the outward appearance while neglecting the inward vices. Matthew 23:25-26.
3. Christ referred to the Scribes and Pharisees as hypocrites and Sinners. Matthew 23:27.

LIFE APPLICATION
Jesus condemned the Pharisees and religious leaders for appearing saintly and holy outwardly but inwardly remaining full of corruption and greed. Living our Christianity merely as a show for others is like washing a cup on the outside only. God wants us to be clean on the inside as well as on the outside.

MESSAGE OF SALVATION
Honesty is one of the many attributes of God. However, a man cannot attain God’s kind of honesty without first of all having a relationship with Him. To have a relationship with the Lord, you simply confess your sins, repent of them, determine not to go back to them and invite the Lord Jesus into your life.

CONCLUSION
To be honest is to be truthful in all we do. Both outwardly and inwardly.

CHALLENGE
God expects us to be honest in all we do. We must not be like the Pharisees who were dishonest.
Those who are dishonest would not enter the kingdom of God.

INVITATION
The Pharisees were ceremonially clean on the outside but they had corrupt hearts. Jesus was
not in their hearts, that is why they were dishonest. Have you asked Jesus today? John 1:12.
He is the one who can help you to be honest (Teacher to lead the children in Salvation Prayer).

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. In our lesson today who were the people that were not sincere? The Pharisees and the
Sadducees.
2. From our lesson what does God expect from us? God expects us to be sincere.
3. Who can help us to be sincere? Jesus Christ.
