  BE SINCERE

TEXT: Matthew 16:6-12

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 8:21 “Providing for honest things; not only in the sight of the
Lord, but also in the sight of men.”

TEACHER’S OBJECTIVE
1. To teach the Children know that they must be sincere in everything they do.
2. They should not be hypocrites like the Pharisees and Sadducees but they should be sincere as Jesus.
3. To let the children know that a little evil can affect a large group of people.

CENTRAL TRUTH
Sincerity is a must for every child of God.

INTRODUCTION
Children what does it mean to be sincere? (Allow the children to respond). It means not to pretend, to be genuine, and to say things you really mean or believe. It also means to be honest. Every child of God should imitate Jesus who is always sincere in all his acts.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
1. Jesus gave the warning of being sincere, one should not be deceitful. Matthew 16:6.
2. The disciples did not understand what Jesus was saying they thought He was referring to their failure to bring bread. Matthew 16:7.
3. Jesus rebuked His disciples for not having faith to comprehend what He was saying
concerning the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees which means their false doctrines –
Matthew 16:8-12.

LIFE APPLICATION
The Pharisees and Sadducees were a set of people who were full of deceit and untruthful. The
Bible recorded that they love to pray in the public for them to be recognized and when they give
they make it known, which suppose not to be. They are insincere in all their doings. Therefore, as children of God, you should not be like these people but rather be like Jesus. You should say yes when you are suppose to say yes and you shouldn’t deceive your friends. Be faithful in your assignment and your examinations; do not cheat during exams and by doing all these you are telling others that you are a true child of God.

MESSAGE OF SALVATION
A little evil can affect so many people; therefore we must be sincere like Jesus. If Jesus
is in your heart, you will be sincere, but if Jesus is not in your heart you cannot be
sincere, like the Pharisees and Sadducees. So let Jesus come into your life.

CONCLUSION
Jesus Christ is our Model. Be sincere in all you do like Jesus Christ.

CHALLENGE
When Jesus Christ was telling His disciples to be careful of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees, they didn’t understand but Jesus rebuked them and later explained to them. So also you as a child of God, for the fact that others in your class are cheating, lying, stealing etc you should not join them rather rebuke them with love as Jesus did to His disciples and tell them about Jesus that they should be sincere as Jesus.

INVITATION
To be sincere you need Jesus. Ask Jesus into your heart today and He would help you to be
sincere in all you do. (Teachers to lead the children in Salvation Prayer).
